I never considered myself "a writer," but someone who writes in order to complete assignments for school and in order to sound intelligent for my future employer. However, I know for a fact that I am not an analytical writer. Throughout my high school career and my first semester of college, I have successfully written one analytical essay. I have written a lot of essays, to put that fact into perspective. I would give a number to make a statistic of how many times I have actually analyzed literature, but like analyzing, I am not good at math. Don't get me wrong, I try in school and genuinely care about my writing skills (and math); However, I was placed into a writing course this semester for a reason.
My best writing pieces are on topics that I have an invested interest in. For example, in a journalism class I took in high school we had to make a magazine on a topic of our choice. Naturally, I chose music. Although I didn't win the senior superlative for "Biggest music fanatic" (still upset), I am a massive fan of music-- a variety of sorts. Like everyone else, when it comes to a topic of interest, I (the writer), can easily write about said topic for hours on end.
All in all, I am a writer who writes to learn and to enhance my skills. I hope that during the course of this semester I grow as a writer and analyzer. My major, Criminology, deals with analyzing data and writing research papers so these skills will be entirely useful towards my life as a whole. I also hope my writing skills enhance through this blog, which is a weekly escape from research-based papers, allowing me to leave 'reality' and enter my own world.
I am also terrible at transitions, so...
Thanks for reading,
Sydney
